Back away from your Boulder sandwich and check these cool spots out

Sydney Johnson

Being on the Loyola campus it may seem that there are no other eating options besides Boulder and Iggy's with the occasional treat of an overpriced Starbucks sandwich.

However just a short walk, or an even shorter bike ride, down St. Paul Street brings you to quite a few options in Charles Village, most of which are healthy and affordable and are not just for Hopkins students.

Bird in Hand Cafe- 11 E. 33rd Street

This cute little cafe, a collaboration between Artifact Coffee and The Ivy Bookshop, boasts a great selection of beverages and food along with a large collection of books available for purchase.

Great for studying, catching up with a friend or having a relaxing afternoon reading a book.

Open Monday-Friday 7AM-7PM, Saturday & Sunday 8AM-7PM.

PekoPeko Ramen- 7 E. 33rd Street

The ramen craze has hit Charles Village. PekoPeko Ramen has quickly become a very popular restaurant with Johns Hopkins students and everyone else in the area.

The average price of their ramen is $12 (which is less expensive than a Boulder meal swipe and way tastier). If you are new to ramen I would recommend the shoyu ramen which is a combination of chicken broth, pork chashu (delicious little slices of pork), bean sprouts, spinach, and nori (seaweed). In other words, total awesomeness.

If you think ramen isn't your thing, they have other options including dumplings and various rice bowls. Also their ginger beer is out of this world. PekoPeko is also BYOB so if you are of age, bringing a six pack with your friends makes it a night to remember.

Open Tuesday-Sunday 11AM-12AM.

Towson Hot Bagels- 3208 St. Paul Street

Another popular chain with a new location in Charles Village, Towson Hot Bagels, as the name suggests, was founded in Towson, Maryland and is a staple for everyone in the Baltimore area. THB offers fresh bagel sandwiches for breakfast and lunch along with other options. It's delicious and affordable.
